Summary
GENERAL SUMMARY
This position plans, directs, controls and manages the overall
financial, operational and functional activities of assigned
physician practices within MyMichigan Health. Assists in the short
and long-term planning of designated practices to maximize growth,
efficiency, profitability and patient access. Manages the
day-to-day practice operations to ensure delivery of excellent
patient care and satisfaction. Provides direction, training and
oversight at the practice that lends to compliance with
organizational policies and procedures, and regulatory agencies,
which may include Rural Health Commission (RHC), Joint Commission
(JC), Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), and
Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA). Provides
leadership to the team that fosters engagement, innovation and a
favorable patient experience, and supports MyMichigan Health care
delivery initiatives. Serves as administrative representative,
patient advocate and employee counselor to ensure maximum patient
access and quality care as well as effective team functioning.
Participates in interdepartmental, intersystem and external
committees, meetings and activities to promote the mission, values
and business of MyMichigan Health. For those managing a Health Park
facility the position works collaboratively with other members of
the MyMichigan Physicians Group (MPG) managemaalso the primary
community contact for MyMichigan Health and is expected to build
relationships within the community and participate in community
events.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(35%)* Screens, selects, orients, trains and disciplines all
personnel. Reviews staffing levels and allocates staffing as
necessary within approved budget limitations. Recommends and
justifies new positions as needed. Reviews and updates job
descriptions for clinical and non-clinical personnel. Duties will
be performed in collaboration with personnel's respective
department or entity (MPG, lab, physical therapy, imaging, urgent
care, specialty clinics, cardio testing, infusion, nuclear
medicine, etc) for Health Park managers. Responsible for written
job performance reviews for all employees with input from the
providers. Ensures all staff are providing care according to
MyMichigan Health policies, procedures and values. Mentors staff on
care delivery and interpersonal relationship expectations.
(35%)* Together with MyMichigan Physicians Group Administration,
dyad leadership and practice providers, develops and implements
short and long term-planning growth and development of the
practice/health park. Using A3 methodology, evaluates current
processes and implements improvement plans to attain performance
goals for patient satisfaction, patient access, quality, employee
and provider engagement. Refines practice workflow as needed to
enhance overall operations. Proactively communicates and
demonstrates positive change management skills during the
implementation of new initiatives. Cultivates recommendations for
concerns or challenges identified during new project
implementations. Identifies and communicates any potential business
opportunities to expand/enhance MyMichigan Health services and
market share. Works with business development, physician relations
and physician liaison teams to develop and implement strategies to
grow the market share of MyMichigan Health services and their joint
ventures.
(20%)* Prepares capital and operating budgets, including personnel
budget. Submits monthly operational and expense variance reports to
the Regional Director. Reviews practice management reports (Epic,
patient satisfaction, financial, variance reports, quality, etc.)
to identify compliance with anticipated performance measures,
determine opportunities for improvement and defines action plans
when outliers are identified. Ensures that the practice staff are
utilizing the appropriate reports and workflows designed for the
Physician Enterprise. Responsible for time-of-service payment
collections, maintaining acceptable cashiering collection ratios
and charge encounter submittals. Assures staff adherence to all
insurance and collection payment policies and procedures. Maintains
security and proper internal controls of all cash, payment receipts
and charge vouchers.
(10%)* Participates on a variety of teams to contribute perspective
for redesign of job descriptions, clinical workflow, policies,
staff training, practice transformation or interdepartmental A3
teams. Manages the budget to ensure cost effectiveness.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborates with dyad leaders and providers to successfully
implement new programs, address areas for improvement and design
action plans for improvement.
Provides constructive evaluation and recommendations to improve
processes.
Communicates in a timely and professional manner to administration,
providers and staff.
Arranges for the procurement and maintenance of all office and
medical equipment, clinic/facility, and its main operating
systems.
Problem solves in areas concerning patients, providers, employee
relations and/or practice operations.
Responds to all formal patient and/or staff complaints.
Identifies and communicates any potential business opportunities to
expand/enhance practice services and market share.
Miscellaneous duties as assigned, including, but not limited to,
committee membership and special projects.
Participate in community events as a representative of individual
subsidiaries and the health system.
Maintain regular contact with multiple departments as necessary in
order to address issues.
Works with MyMichigan Health public relations, marketing, and
education team to plan system-wide communication to consumers,
physicians and employees.
Support provider recruitment, by sharing the resume/CV with the
provider team, working with recruiters to assure the team is
available to spend time during the site visits with the candidate
and responding timely regarding the evaluation of the provider.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS
Bachelor's Degree in related field
Knowledge of general management, finance, human resources and
healthcare operations and principles.
Two (2) years of management experience in a health care related
field required. Prior experience in a leadership role in an
ambulatory practice is preferred.
Must be able to easily adapt to and lead change.
Knowledge or the ability to quickly learn performance improvement
processes.
Must be able to learn independently, process and analyze data.
Excellent time management skills are required to manage a multitude
of projects, staff and urgent situations on a daily basis.
Ability to exercise initiative, problem solving and decision-making
and apply policies and principles to solve everyday problems and
deal with a variety of situations.
Analytical skills needed to review complex sets of performance,
financial and outcome data. Must be able to maintain strict
confidentiality.
Ability to plan and project future operating needs related to
fiscal considerations and staffing changes; interpret objectives
and develop practical applications.
Strong leadership and organization skills essential to effectively
direct teams of different types and levels of employees in all
locations, including other managers, physicians, department staff
members, affiliated institution staff members, and clients, along
with the ability to promote strong teamwork and communication at
all levels.
Written and interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully
with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels
to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable
manner.
Must have the ability to attend meetings at remote MyMichigan
Health locations when requested. This may include occasional
mid-day travel.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public
contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.
Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex
materials or appropriate substitute if required for your
position.
Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted
device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as
outlined in the job description.
Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted
device(s).
Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May
require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or
crouching.
Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially
infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne
pathogen and TB testing as required.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work
independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to
stay awake.
Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching,
grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these
movements on a regular to frequent basis.
Physical Demand Level: Sedentary. Must be able to occasionally
(0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 0-10 lbs.
