Job Description
IFF has an exciting and challenging opportunity for an
Environmental Health Safety & Sustainability Manager supporting IFF
Midland Operations. This includes two manufacturing plants, two
R&D facilities and an analytical laboratory. These growing cGMP
manufacturing facilities produce industry-leading cellulosic
products for the pharmaceutical excipient and food markets. Our
R&D facilities support Pharma in addition to other IFF business
units.
This position is responsible for the overall implementation of site
EHS management systems to ensure compliance with regulatory
requirements and IFF corporate standards, as well as implementation
and maintenance of EHS processes, culture of safety,
sustainability, and continuous improvement programs within
manufacturing and R&D facilities.
Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to
the following:
- Ensure a safe working environment by providing leadership on
all safety-related issues and actively leading plant safety
initiatives.
- Manager of EHS department. Directly manages employees in the
EHS department in both occupational and environmental safety.
Carries out managerial responsibilities in accordance with the
organization's policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include directing, interviewing, hiring, and
training employees; planning, assigning and directing work;
appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees:
addressing any compliance gaps and resolving problems.
- Directs the Occupational Health Practitioner in the execution
of our Industrial Hygiene program and actively engages with case
management.
- Directs the Training and Operational Excellence resources to
deliver management system compliance and continuous
improvement.
- Recommends modifications of existing EHS standards to achieve a
safe working environment. Partners with Center of Excellence to
drive best practices and consistency across IFF.
- Responsible for delivering on our Do More Good Plan, 2030 ESG
targets and initiatives.
- Serves as Site Security Officer and is the liaison with
DHS.
- Accountable for compliance and certification to ISO 14001,
Title V, RCRA, DOT and other Regulatory standards. Accountable for
maintaining a superior rated level of compliance and be ready for
regulatory inspections at any time.
- Responsible for creating and implementing the overall EHS
Management System for the site including SOP's and guidelines for
the plant.
- Investigate and make recommendations on appropriate
site-related EHS issues through use of records, 1st party audits,
professional knowledge and observation, and prior knowledge to
develop and drive continuous improvement efforts.
- Manage all internal and external site EHS regulatory visits and
audits in conjunction with appropriate Midland Management Team
members.
- Function as a member of the Midland Management Team providing
site-wide leadership and strategic direction to issues affecting
the Midland plant such as safety, quality, financial, human
resources, environmental and regulatory concerns.
Job Requirements
- BS Degree in EHS, engineering or other technical degrees
preferred.
- Minimum of five years in a food, chemical or manufacturing
environment with a minimum of two years of experience in EHS
functions.
- A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the
ability to work legally in the United States.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to work
effectively, professionally and respectfully in a team-based
environment to involve peers, auditors, line management and
technical competency experts.
- Demonstrated supervisory skills (leadership, written and oral
communication skills, financial).
- Excellent leadership, verbal, written, and communication
skills.
- Excellent at active listening and communication, both written
and verbal.
- Can coach and positively influence behavior change in others
for the benefit of the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to influence teams and resolve conflicts
in support of organizational goals.
- Continuous improvement mindset - eliminates non-value added
work for the organization. Project execution capability at the Six
Sigma green belt level preferred.
- Computer and technical literacy; demonstrated skill in use of
Microsoft Office software (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Outlook,
SharePoint, Excel).
- Knowledge of CFATS, RMP/PSM, DOT and other applicable EHS
regulatory requirements preferred.
- Fully versed in application of Management of Change.
