Job Description:
Summary
GENERAL SUMMARY:
This position in collaboration with a physician develops an
anesthesia care plan. Provides IV sedation and/or monitored
anesthesia care and/or administers general, regional or local
anesthesia for a variety of surgical, obstetrical, diagnostic or
therapeutic procedures. Monitors patients accurately and performs
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), ventilation or life support
measures during emergencies throughout the Medical Center. Manages
the patients' physiological condition while under anesthesia and
initiates corrective actions as necessary or as directed by a
physician. Assists with other departmental or professional duties
as requested by the Manager of Anesthesiology.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
(25%)* Perform pre-anesthetic evaluation and preparation.
(25%)* Prepares the OR Suite for all types of anesthesia.
(25%)* Administers, manages, and monitors anesthesia care during
induction, maintenance, and emergence.
(25%)* Provide post-anesthesia care and evaluation.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Takes appropriate safety precautions to insure the safe
administration of his/her anesthesia care.
Identifies opportunities for improving quality, including patient
outcomes and operational efficiency within the Department.
Provide clinical support to other departments within the Medical
Center.
Other duties as assigned.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENCURES:
ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Required Equivalent Experience
- Within 12 months of hire or transfer.
BLS - Basic Life Support Required Equivalent Experience - Within 3
months of hire or transfer.
CRNA - Certified RN Anesthetist Required.
NBCRNA - National Board CRNA Required Equivalent Experience -
Member-Council on Re-Certification of Nurse Anesthesiology.
RN - Registered Nurse Required
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
Masters Degree
Knowledge of anesthesia as normally acquired through completion of
an accredited program of nurse anesthesia culminating in
certification and licensure in the State of Michigan. May also be
in the process of completing final course work and waiting to take
State Boards.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS:
Written, organization, and interpersonal skills needed to
communicate successfully with individuals and groups to interact
with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a
clear and understandable manner.
Demonstrates the ability to perform basic and advanced skills
required practicing anesthesia.
These may include but are not limited to: Adult and pediatric
venipuncture, Arterial line insertion, Medication calculation and
effects Sterile technique, Airway maintenance, Administration and
management of regional anesthetics.
Compliance with all Medical Center policies and practices as
described in the employee handbook.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is an additional preferred
certification.
