Description: This position cares for patients before, during, and
after angiography and interventional cardiac catheterization
procedures. Responsibilities include pre-procedure assessment,
pre-medication, documentation of the cath process, post-cath care,
and patient education. The nurse will scrub in for procedures and
assist other members of the cardiac catheterization laboratory.
Nursing care of the catheterization/angiography cardiovascular
patient will be performed. Other cardiac diagnostic nursing
procedures will be conducted according to department protocol. The
nurse will assist in stress echocardiograms, routine treadmill
exams, nuclear and pharmacologic stress testing, tilt table tests,
and transesophageal echocardiograms. Preparation, procedure, and
recovery for other interventional radiology procedures will also be
supported. Patients will be evaluated and screened for safety prior
to performing testing. Sedation monitoring will be provided in
accordance with hospital policy and documented appropriately.
Holter monitor application, event monitor application, ambulatory
blood pressure monitor application, and pacemaker interrogations
will be performed. The nurse will insert PICC lines and function as
a vascular access expert to meet patients' needs. Other necessary
tasks may be assigned by the manager. Equipment operation and
supply management will be part of the responsibilities, such as
cardiac output, hemodynamic monitoring, pacemakers/ICDs,
intraaortic balloon pumps, crash carts, IV pumps, defibrillators,
and stress machines. Scrubbing in for procedures with the physician
will be required. All pertinent information will be recorded on
appropriate data sheets. The nurse will develop, review, and
enhance cardiovascular education materials and programs. 5 Benefits
