Summary GENERAL SUMMARY: Under general direction of nursing
leadership, the Clinical Supervisor RN position is responsible for
serving as a clinical resource and unit expert for staff. This
position links nursing leadership with nursing care through the
application of organizational and nursing service policies,
procedures, and care delivery model.
The Clinical Supervisor RN uses the Code of Ethics for Nurses with
Interpretive Statements to guide leadership and practice.
The Clinical Supervisor RN attains knowledge and competence
reflective of current nursing practice; promotes innovation and
futuristic thinking by incorporating evidence based practice and
research findings. (40%)* Assesses competency of staff, and
functions as a liaison to facilitate staff completing and
maintaining their unit competencies. Acts as a resource and role
model for clinical practice, develops and maintains excellent
collaborative relationships and channels of communication with
members of the nursing care teams, including essential service
leadership. Helps in development and delivery of process
improvement strategies, and assist in promotion of teamwork and
care delivery in times of need. Focuses on developing and enhancing
clinical knowledge, technical skills, clinical decision-making and
professional practice standards for nursing staff.
(20%)* Complete focused rounding for all patients, with nursing
staff, within 24 hours of admission and as needed. Participates in
direct patient care when appropriate, ensuring that best practices
are in place, and standards of care are being followed. Promotes
(20%)*Collaborates effectively with physicians, nurses, and other
health care providers to assist in the best care delivery,
efficiency and planning of patients. Makes recommendation as
appropriate for progression of total plan of care to achieve
desired outcome in a timely and cost-effective manner. Continuously

appropriate works with Director, Manager, and nursing staff to

refer issues to the Nurse Manager.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS: Registered Nurse licensure in the
State of Michigan required. Associates degree required. Bachelor's
degree in nursing at time of hire or transfer to position
preferred. Specialty Nursing Certification or Advanced Nurse
Certification required within 4 years of hire or transfer to
position (new requirement added in March 2020). Current incumbents
who have a Doctorate in Nursing are exempt from this
