Dow has an exciting opportunity for a Hardware Discipline Technologist Lead located in Midland, MI. This role is for a highly motivated person with maintenance and repair experience in a combination of the following areas: chemical process instrumentation, industrial electrical equipment, and basic industrial pipe work. The ideal candidate will exhibit leadership skills, display flexibility in working with others, have experience working in a chemical plant, demonstrate proficiency in electronic tools and embrace an ownership culture. This job exists to provide maintenance repair expertise and support to production units within Michigan Operations. Job Responsibilities: - Lead craft certification program for site instrument technician trainees and apprentices. - Develop needed curriculum. - Schedule third party training. - Administer certification testing. - Track and report trainee progress so that site succession plan is met. - Integrate skills needed into the craft certification program to enable leveraged instrument tech support to all businesses, process and process controllers (PLC, ModV, ABB, hDow, hDCC, etc.). - Coordinate rotation of MiOps instrument technicians to achieve a well-rounded work force which can be leveraged to support multiple technologies and systems across MiOps. - Provide instrumentation and electrical SME support to improvement and capital projects. - Participate on new project installation teams by giving guidance on optimum instrument choice for a given need. - Review new or newly classified SIS instruments to assign the appropriate SIS proof test. - Assist in control system modifications (ex: Mod to ABB conversion or Fired Equipment Technology logic updates) by providing up front SME input for instrument selection as well as rapid troubleshooting upon initialization. - Troubleshoot, diagnose and provide effective repairs to all the components of Process Control Instrumentation loops (e.g. sensors, communications, control systems, etc.) - Act as site SME for troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing instrument and process control related issues. - Develop procedures to efficiently, effectively and safely diagnose and repair process instrumentation. - Participate in Root Cause Investigations as required to provide SME input. - Participate in staff-on-call duties within the department. Job Information and Working Conditions: This role is for a highly motivated person with instrument maintenance experience that exhibits leadership skills, displays flexibility in working with others, has experience working in a chemical plant, demonstrates proficiency in electronic tools and embraces an ownership culture. The job is primarily performed on weekdays; Monday through Thursday. Overtime is required as necessary to affect the necessary repairs to keep our Plant Partners operating. After hours Call-ins are a part of this role. Typical Goals: - Actively participate in improving EH & S performance through use of the EH & S tools. - 100% of instrument and electrical PPM activities completed, on time - Improve Instrumentation asset mechanical reliability of the Plants to which the candidate is assigned. - Work Process Metric improvements (e.g. % Work Orders with History entered) - Participation on a project team (LEAN, Continuous Improvement or other) - Improve compliance and agreement between work practices and EH & S Standards Required Qualifications: - A minimum of a High School Diploma is required. - A minimum of 2 years of alternative work experience in Process Instrumentation repair and maintenance is required. - Ability to work overtime as necessary is required. - A minimum requirement for this U. S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U. S. permanent residency (green card) process. Preferred Qualifications: - A two year degree in instrument engineering technology or a related technology (e.g. Electronics) is desired. This position does not offer relocation assistance.
