The EHS&S (Environmental, Health, Safety & Sustainability)
function has an exciting opportunity for an EHS&S
Sustainability Specialist located in Midland, MI.
About you
Under the direction of the TERC (Toxicology & Environmental
Research & Consulting) Leader, as part of the Excellence Process
Service Solution team, you will play a critical role in the
delivery of Safety Data Sheets services to the Dow businesses. You
have primarily technical knowledge in Toxicology. A secondary
technical knowledge in Industrial Hygiene is desirable.
Also, you can complete each of the following tasks:
Conducting routine Environment Fate, Hazard, and Exposure Scenario
evaluations in support of product development, regulatory,
wastewater, and environmental stewardship programs with guidance
and instruction from more senior level leaders and individual
contributors.
Using existing procedures and guidance from more senior level
leaders and individual contributors to solve standard Toxicological
and/or Industrial Hygiene issues for Dow businesses and
manufacturing operations.
Appling general knowledge of business developed through education
or experience to provide technical knowledge to define and assess
potential environmental (toxicological) exposures and risks
associated with Dow products, processes, and wastes.
Providing support to the industrial Hygiene (IH) Subject Matter
Expert (SME) for completion of product Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs)
and "Exposure Controls" section (Section 8). This will involve the
completion of eye protection, ingestion, skin protection,
inhalation, and ventilation recommendations. As well as developing
knowledge in the recommendation of personal protective equipment
(PPE) and business rules for applying Occupational Exposure Limits
(OELs).
Other responsibilities:
Conducts routine environment fate, hazard, and exposure
evaluations
Conducts Global Hazard evaluations using regulations such as UN
Purple Book (GHS) and European Classification and Labelling (EU
CL&P)
Uses existing procedures to solve standard Mammalian and
Environmental issues
Assists in researching Mammalian and Environmental topics of
interest to Dow businesses
Apply IH business rules in the selection of globally applicable
OELs
Use IH logic grid for selection of appropriate IH risk phrases
Make respirator type recommendations
Make glove material type recommendations
Required qualifications:
A minimum of a bachelor's degree in a science related discipline or
relevant military experience at or above a U.S. E6 ranking or
Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class ranking
Computer knowledge with the ability to learn and become proficient
in use of multiple software programs
Your preferred qualifications include:
A degree discipline in Toxicology
Experience in GHS Classification and Labeling
A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
Experienced SAP user
Your skills, knowledge, and abilities include:
Strong troubleshooting skills, has ability to identify and closes
data gaps
Demonstrates attention to detail, excellent communication
skills
Demonstrates excellent decision-making skills , ability to organize
and prioritize workload
Self-starter / Self-motivated - ability to work independently,
quickly & reliably
Able to anticipate needs, be flexible
Understanding and deciphering of chemical structure and classes
Ability to search internet when necessary for Toxicological and/or
chemical information
