About You
As a Solids Processing Specialist at Dow, you will support capital
project teams, operating plant personnel, business Technology
Center personnel, and other technical teams in the definition and
implementation of business goals and objectives. This is a
specialized role within the Process Engineering Technology Group
(Solids Processing Expertise Area), with a focus on solids
handling.
Your expertise in solids flowabililty and solid/liquid separation
will be used for system design and combustible dust handling risk
assessments. You will contribute as a technical resource for
problem solving and technology advancement. In addition to
understanding and applying legal requirements for the safe handling
of combustible dusts, you will apply specialized knowledge in the
areas of silo and hopper design and solids handling system design.
You will be required to design and troubleshoot mixing, feeding,
weighing, size reduction, solid/liquid separation, and sampling
equipment.
You will be expected to become proficient with using the physical
properties of particulate solids in order to design these types of
equipment to ensure their safe operation, while meeting competitive
costs for implementation and long-term cost of ownership.
Core responsibilities for this role include:
assisting in training and creation and updating of (Most Effective
Technology) MET documents for the expertise area.
evaluate solids handling systems and recommend system improvements
to eliminate any design deficiencies.
understand the physical properties required for storage hopper
design and provide functional hopper designs (cone angle, outlet
dimension, wall material of construction, and flow aid device
requirements) to project teams to ensure reliable flow of the
stored material.
evaluate solid/liquid separation test data and apply that
information to the selection and design of solid/liquid separation
equipment.
able to identify technical problems and appropriately engage the
business technology center and other experts to resolve.
Ensure that the project scopes are well defined and meet the
business needs in a cost effective manner.
Required Qualifications:
A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Related Sciences
(Chemical or Mechanical Engineering is preferred)
A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
Prior experience with solids processing fundamentals
Fluent in English
Applicable to Candidates in North America Only: A minimum
requirement for this position is the ability to work legally in the
United States or Canada. No visa sponsorship/support is available
for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent
residency (green card) process.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience with project execution work processes
Solids Processing Expertise Area Support Network or Solids
Processing R&D experience
Experience in dust explosion vent sizing, dust explosion property
testing and solids handling test methods
Process Engineering experience
Production plant troubleshooting experience
Production or Improvement experience
Six Sigma certification
Experience leading teams
Additional Notes:
This position can be located at any Dow site in North America or
Europe, Middle East or India
