Summary This position maintains the landscape of the Medical Center Campus, in a high quality, professional manner to make the grounds appealing and safe to patients, personnel and the general public.

(70%)* Performs landscaping tasks as scheduled mowing, trimming edging, mulching, trash pickup, snow/ice removal and misc. tasks assigned. (20%)* Works from verbal and written orders, sketches, drawings and manufacturer's specifications. (10%)* Plans and coordinates planting and landscaping treatments as recommended and performs preventive maintenance on equipment as needed. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintains turf grass cultural practices, e.g., mowing, fertilization, irrigation, cultivation, establishment, turf grass pests, control, edging and weed whipping. Handles leaf removal and maintains roof gutters. Performs plant maintenance; pruning, growing requirements, plant removal and relocation, disease and pest management, landscape design, installation, and consultation, winter plant maintenance requirements. Performs parking lot maintenance, parking lot signs, debris, trash, and cigarette butts control/removal. Performs snow removal operations, maintaining supplies and equipment. Helps organize and purchase all supplies needed for operations, including contracted services. Performs equipment preventative maintenance programs including bodywork and painting. Maintains record keeping, inventories and equipment P-M records, daily activity logs, weather records, contracted snow removal activities, accurate records of contracted work by this department at other corporate entities. Uses necessary tools, machines and equipment pertinent to work performed. Performs other duties as required. EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS: Knowledge in landscaping field. Prefer 2-3 years in horticulture related field. Mandatory Ocupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training must also be completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan. PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death. Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position. Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description. Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s). Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching. Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MidMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required. Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake. Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis. Physical Demand Level: Medium. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 21-50 lbs., frequently 34-66% of the workday 20 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls and constantly (67-100% or the workday) 10 lbs.
