      We have an exciting opportunity for an R&D/TS&D Technician located in Midland, MI. The role is in Analytical Science, Core R&D in Michigan Operations. We are an integrated Research & Development and Manufacturing & Engineering partner accelerating Dow business success through excellence in measurement science. The role is targeted to join our Accelerated Aging research team. TheR&D/TS&D Technician provides basic technical support to Lead Scientists and Technologist Leaders in the preparation and execution of experimental activities and studies. The role provides technical support for product development, application development, technical service, and/or product or process research.

      About you

      You are a team player that requires minimal supervision. You can operate equipment, perform operations based on plant processes, demonstrate chemical manufacturing expertise, and run or troubleshoot for the plant safely and efficiently.

      Also, you can complete each of the following tasks:
      • Works as part of a team in a laboratory supporting chemists and engineers in developing, screening and commercializing new products and process
      • Manages and then safely executes laboratory work requests, maintaining and running relevant laboratory apparatus and testing equipment and documenting data
      • Prepares for and independently performs standard and some non-routine procedures using relevant equipment and instruments, for which activities may include sample or materials preparations, equipment setup and/or configurations, and proper handling and disposal of waste materials that may be generated from experimental activities
      • Accurately and reliably records readings and observations using relevant equipment and instruments
      • Acts responsible for calibration, safe operation, and routine maintenance of simple and moderately complex instruments or machinery, and troubleshoots faulty equipment effects repairs or initiates repair processes as appropriate
      • Maintains inventories of consumable materials, chemicals, and supplies related to activities by anticipating usage rates, order lead times, and ordering/purchasing procedures
      • Promptly and effectively communicates issues to Technology Leader or lead scientists in order to enable or accelerate problem resolution
      • Actively participate in work group team meetings to address safety, process improvement, problem solving, and other work group, department, and functional topics


        Required qualifications

        • A minimum of an associate's degree with a focus in science related courses Chemistry, Biology, or a similar disciple
        • In lieu of an associate's degree or higher, Dow will consider those with four (4) + years of relevant military experience and a High School Diploma or GED
        • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process

            Your preferred qualifications include:

            • Experience operating laboratory equipment
            • A bachelor's degree in a science related discipline or relevant military experience at or above a U.S. E6 ranking OR Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class ranking

              • Being proficient in Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel
              • Demonstrating competencies in the areas of: leadership, initiative, teamwork, and interpersonal effectiveness
              • Ensuring a safe work environment by working safely and, complying with environmental, health and safety standards
              • Strong work ethic and being able to remain productive in an empowered team environment
