Dow's Core Research and Development Engineering & Process Science capability has an exciting opportunity for a Senior R&D/TS&D Glass Blower Technician. In this role, you will partner with functions including Research and Development and Environmental Operations to design and fabricate custom and specialty borosilicate and quartz scientific glassware. This may involve working from sketches or design ideas without detailed drawings allowing you to use technical creativity. In addition, you will modify and repair laboratory glassware on-site, maintain inventory for the glass shop, and provide customer service for internal customers. As time allows, you will support other lab activities such as building glassware and metal experimental processes, conduct analytical testing and support routine experimentation for the Process Sciences Team. About you This role is located in Michigan Operations Research and Development campus in Midland, MI. The successful candidate for this role will partner with engineers and leadership to apply skills to conduct scientific glass blowing. You will also assume responsibility for working effectively in a team setting to manage safety and maintenance requirements. Also, you can complete each of the following tasks: Shares technical knowledge with researchers and other internal customers in the installation, use, and safe handling of glassware Fabricates, designs, modifies, and repairs scientific equipment to support research projects Answers questions and provides technical information on glassware Supports troubleshooting efforts to define and resolve problems Leads the operations and/or management of the glass shop Follows safety standards and ensures routine maintenance of equipment in shop Supports other lab activities such as building glassware and metal experimental processes, conducts analytical testing, supporting routine experiments Required qualifications A minimum of 5 years of experience in a fully equipped glass laboratory (borosilicate and quartz), experience with operation a variety of related equipment, understanding of safety protocols as related to the use of pressurized gasses and open flames and related hazards At minimum High School Diploma or GED. A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.
